Ultrasound Picture: 3/23/2007

Okay, it's a few days late, but Anny has been carting around the picture(s) for several days.

The ultrasound went REALLY well. I think that with all of the hiccups we have had throughout the last six or seven months, we always expect that they will find something to worry about. Her heart is strong, her bones are the "right size" and everything else seems to be in order. We were told not to worry, but her head is measuring about a week ahead of the averages. (I just had to put that out there to remind Anny that our little one has a big head!)

They took other images that they did not print. Bummer.

She Kicked Me, In the Kidney!

This morning I was kicked in my kidney..... by my unborn daughter! That little girl must be getting advice from her uncle Jason.

A common phrase that my brother uses, I assume only to me, is "I'll punch/kick/stab you in the kidneys." Often this phrase is justified because of something I have just said or done. It's an empty threat, typically.

I hear this so often that I made mention of it to my mom and sister when they were here a few weeks ago before we went out shopping. I practically guaranteed that he would use his famous line at least three times. He must have been on his best behavior because he only said it once, and alluded to it once. I was almost disappointed, but mostly because I don't like being wrong.

So anyway, this morning as I was laying against Anny's now-typically warm belly, I felt quite a strong kick. From the baby, not from Anny. She kicked with accuracy, too. That little brat kicked me right in one of my kidney scars!

As you can guess, it did not hurt nearly as badly as if her uncle had done it, but it was pretty darned funny.

Book Review: The Expectant Father

As most of you know, I am not a book-reader. I read magazines, newspapers, the web news and stories all the time. Because people know that I don't read, I often don't get books or book recommendations from those close to me.

When I got this book, The Expectant Father by Armin Brott and Jennifer Ash, I thought twice. I know enough about pregnancy from reading the web, right? Wrong. This book is so thorough with month-by-month accounts of what Anny is going through, and what the baby is going through, that I feel like I have everything I need to know.

This book is not for folks that already have kids. It really is for guys going through this process for the first time. Each chapter has a different focus, but there is a common thread of themes for each month:
What's Going On with Your Partner
What's Going On with Your Baby
What's Going On with You
Staying Involved

In addition to the month-by-month coverage, there is a lot of information on delivery, including both vaginal delivery and cesarian sections. I feel a lot more comfortable about options and just-in-case scenarios.

I'm going to buy this book for a friend, and would recommend it to anyone looking for laughs and honest writing about the ever evolving process of bringing my baby to this world!

Nursery Step 4: Yes I skipped Three!

Since "step three" of the nursery was completely boring, I'm skipping it! A big shout out to Jon for helping get rid of all of the old blue with some Kilz, though.

Step Four of the nursery was very involved. Our Barnyard Theme got me a bit excited, and a bit creative. We have painted the ceiling blue, which matches the top half of the walls. The bottom half of the walls is green, and is intended to look like hills. I think it turned out nicely! Another big shout out, this time to my mom and sister for all of their help this weekend.
Here are the pictures:
Corner One: taken from the doorway.

Corner Two: taken from the closet.

Corner Three: Taken from Corner Four.

Corner Four: Includes the closet and window.
I'm really happy with the paint. I have a little touch up to do, but nothing that would change the pictures. Our next step is probaly laying down the floor. That may wait a couple of weeks since the weather we're having is just too good to leave yardwork alone!

Anyone Notice the Ticker?

We're at less than 100 days to go!

Yesterday was also the first day of the Third Trimester!

All sorts of excitement!

(I have new pics to post, but will do that later today.)

First Weird Craving....

It's 10 til 9, typically bedtime in our house these days. Anny is making herself a turkey sandwich right now. Not typically a big deal, but this is the conversation that happened:

Rob: Hey Baby, whatcha doin?
Anny: Makin a sandwich.
Rob: To eat now?
Anny: Yes to eat now.
(pause)
Anny: Want to know why?
Rob: Um, because you're hungry?
Anny: Yes that. But also because the sandwich that Turk was eating looked REALLY good.

That would be a reference to Turk from Scrubs reruns this evening.

We have a dozen boxes of girl scout cookies in our house, and she's going for a turkey sandwich. Here come the cravings!

No News Is Good News

So, you've noticed that we have not updated the site in a week. That's not to say that nothing is happening! Things are rolling along nicely, and I even got to feel a little kick last week. Very exciting.

As for me, I've been reading my pregnancy book, and making silly purchases, like this one. Any Letter Book that has references to Wayne Gretzky is a great one to me! I also bought the cutest pair of shoes, even though she can't wear them until she's three months old or so.

Anny has been reading her books and magazines too. She's also keeping busy with her assignments for National Board Certification (for teachers). I'm making sure that she takes it easy around the house so that she can focus on making my little girl perfect!

And that's our update for today!
